We have compiled a list of useful sources and case studies of the effectiveness of Information and Communication Technologies in Asian countries.

UNDP
The United Nations Asia-Pacific Development Information Programme has a welth of case studies on projects that have a primary objective of increasing access to information and ICTs. These projects took on strong social dimmensions often altering communities to some degree. They often deal with ‘last mile’ initiatives, increasing access and capacity building at a local level, and addressing issues such as culture, gender equity, social equity, sustainable community development and benefits to rural areas.

ICT in teacher education
This essay contains a collection of examples of “ICT in Teacher Education” programmes from the Asia-Pacif ic region. From the introduction, "While these programmes may not always have been successful and are not necessarily examples of “best practice”, an examination of such programmes offers insights into the process of educating teachers to integrate ICT into teaching and the process of utilizing ICT tools for training teachers. In addition, these programmes provide information about the issues that are often faced in ICT-enhanced teacher education in the region and the lessons that have been learned through past experience. This information will be useful to education planners, teachers, educators and researchers, particularly those in the Asia-Pacif ic region."

ASPBAE Research on Information and Communication Technology
This Case study conducted by the Asian South Pacific Bureau of Adult Education (ASPBAE) addresses the many aspects of implamenting Information and Communication Technologies in Bangladesh. It mentions how Information and Communication Technologes are contributing to widening of social inequalities, as well as how ICT effects women and adults.

ICTs for community empowerment
This report looks at the use of ICTs to help empower communities to improve their quality of life. Specific issues that are explored include the use of ICTs to support the following: Non-formal education, networking , capcity building and more. Included in the report are case studies from Thailand, Sri Lanka and Laos.

The Roles of Community Based Telecenters in Bridging the Digital Divide in Rural Malaysia
From the Abstract, "Malaysia is aggressive in promoting the usage of ICT to its mass population through the support by the government policies and programs targeting the general population. However, with the uneven distribution of the basic telecommunication infrastructure between the urban and rural area, cost for being “interconnected” that is considered high among the poorer rural population and the lack of local contents that suit the rural population needs or lifestyles, it is still a challenge for Malaysia to achieve its Vision 2020 Agenda moving the nation towards an information society by the year 2020."
